Switched Hosting Provider: Site5 ==> Dreamhost

I migrated the hosting provider of this site from Site5.com to DreamHost on Fri. The migration went through rather smoothly. I did a test first on running my blog on DreamHost first. I imported the DB and copied over my Drupal installation. Everything worked fine. Then I updated my domain to point to Dreamhost's DNS servers and turned on my blogging site on DreamHost. Meanwhile, I've kept my blog site running on site5.com because the DNS server update can take up to 48 hours to propagate.

I did have problems with the switch:

Contract with Site5 is Almost Up. Move to Private Sharing Hosting?

My prepaid 1-year hosting service with Site5 is going to expire near the end of this month.

I've been very satisfied with Site5. I haven't experienced any problem. Their support is very responsive. Whenever I email about a question/issue, they respond within 30 minutes.

But Netfirms has a $10 for one year promotion going on. It seems very attractive from a pricing point. Currently, I am paying site5 $6.95/month ($83.40/year) for 5gb space. I'll need to research more on Netfirms.

Hosting on a virtual private server (eg. Linode has always been in my mind. But I don't think I really need it until I can free up my time and my mind to develop some interesting web applications to run on that kind of environment. It’s not cheap.
