Release of Scuttlelicious 0.1 - a firefox extension for posting bookmarks to any websites powered by Scuttle

Submitted by kai on Mon, 2005-10-24 20:30. ::

What is this?

Scuttlelicious lets a user post the current page or link to Scuttle.org or any social bookmarking site powered by Scuttle. Currently, it lets users define only one site which bookmarks can be posted to. It has been tested on Firefox 1.0x on a Windows 2000 machine

Installation

Usage

Right-click on any web page or link to bring up the pop-up menu, click "Post Page to Scuttle-enabled site". Or click on the Scuttlelicious button on the toolbar(you need to customize Firefox toolbar to show it).

Plan for future releases:

  • Support the posting of private/shared bookmarks if this patch is applied to Scuttle
  • Display the existing tags associated with the URL/page that's being posted from the Scuttle-enabled site or from del.icio.us if there is any.
  • Support multiple Scuttle-enabled sites( will people really use multiple Scuttle-enabled sites at the same time? )

Other Information

  • Scuttlelicious is based on Patrick H. Lauke's del.icio.us post 0.4. I thought it'd be easy to modify del.icio.us post to post to Scuttle-enabled sites because Scuttle supports the del.icio.us API. I emailed Patrick H. Lauke twice to get his permission to reuse his codes. But he never responded. so I just went ahead to do the modification.
  • This extension cannot be used to post pages/links to del.icio.us because posts_add.php is used as the adding bookmark URL instead of "posts/add". Setting up "posts/add" requires URL rewrite, but I am not sure if all Scuttle-enabled sites have this set up correctly. * Scuttle and Del.icio.us's tagging mechanisms are also different. Scuttle uses commas as delimiters for tags for the web interface. But Scuttle API and Del.icio.us uses spaces instead. For consistency with the Scutlle web interface, this extension allows commas as delimiters.

Edited: There's a bug in this version where the comma delimited tags were treated as one tag. It has been fixed.
